The Ellis Island Family Heritage Awards - 2006

On April 19, 2006 four esteemed individuals were honored by The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation for their contributions to the American Experience. The 5th annual Ellis Island Family Heritage Awards were presented by the Foundation’s Founding Chairman Lee Iacocca in an 11:00 a.m. ceremony at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum hosted by Ernie Anastos of WNYW-TV Fox 5, with remarks by Lynn Scarlett, Acting Secretary, U.S. Department of the Interior.

Dr. Madeleine K. Albright

Government Service

64th Secretary of State of the United States, she was the first woman Secretary of State and the highest-ranking woman in the history of the United States government. She served as a member of the President's Cabinet and National Security Council for eight years and was the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1993-1997. Born in Czechoslovakia, she and her family came to the United States in November 1948.
